Product Essentials
Start with what the system is, what it is made from, and the verified proof behind it.
What are Fortress Screens?
Fortress Screens are custom stainless steel protective screens for windows, doors, sliding doors, skylights, lanais, porches, sunrooms, and engineered pool cages. Each screen combines stainless steel mesh with a structural aluminum frame and remains permanently installed over the opening.
Do hurricane, security, and energy benefits come from the same screen?
Yes. One Fortress Screen provides Category 5 hurricane protection, a cut-proof and impact-proof security barrier, and reduced solar heat gain. The same permanent installation serves all three purposes rather than requiring separate products at the opening.
What are Fortress Screens made from?
Each screen uses 12x12 stainless steel mesh set in a structural aluminum frame. The mesh carries 120,000 lbs of tensile strength. Standard frame colors are White, Bronze, and Black, with premium custom colors available for an additional cost.
What certifications and approvals do Fortress Screens have?
Fortress Screens are approved under Florida Building Code numbers FL32125.1-R2 and FL32125.2-R2. NAMI certification numbers are NI014823-R2 and NI014824-R2. The product is rated for Category 5 hurricane conditions.
Hurricane, Security & Daily Use
Understand what the screen does at the opening and what daily life looks like after installation.
Do hurricane impact screens really work?
Yes. Fortress Screens are Category 5 rated and designed to absorb debris impact before it reaches the glass behind them. The system remains permanently mounted, so there are no panels to find, shutters to close, or fabric to deploy when a storm approaches. Read the full hurricane protection guide.
How do Fortress Screens help stop forced entry?
The cut-proof stainless steel mesh creates a physical barrier outside vulnerable glass. The mesh, structural aluminum frame, attachment system, and permanent mounting work together to help block smash-and-grab and forced-entry attempts while preserving visibility from inside. Learn more about security screens for homes and businesses.
What happens if the glass behind the screen breaks?
The stainless steel screen remains the physical barrier at the opening. Glass damage does not automatically remove the screen, because the protective mesh and frame are mounted around the opening rather than relying on the glass itself for strength.
Do Fortress Screens block the view or airflow?
No. Visibility from inside remains similar to a conventional window screen, and normal airflow remains breezy. From outside, the mesh reduces visibility into the property, which can add privacy.
Can Fortress Screens protect windows from golf balls?
Yes. The impact-proof mesh can protect glass from repeated golf-ball and other projectile impacts. This application is used by homes, clubhouses, and commercial buildings near golf courses, driving ranges, and sports fields while maintaining the view through the opening.
Applications & Fit
See which openings, structures, and special conditions can be addressed with a custom system.
What openings can Fortress Screens protect?
Fortress Screens can be custom manufactured for windows, entry doors, French doors, sliding-glass doors, skylights, lanais, porches, sunrooms, patios, and other special-use openings. Each screen is made to the exact dimensions of the opening rather than adapted from a stock size.
Can Fortress Screens be installed on residential and commercial buildings?
Yes. Fortress serves homeowners, commercial property owners, medical facilities, government buildings, housing authorities, and other building owners. The product and installation plan are customized to the building, opening type, and project requirements.
Can Fortress Screens be installed on pool cages and lanais?
Yes, but pool cages require a specially engineered enclosure system. Fortress panels place different structural demands on a cage than conventional fiberglass mesh, so pool-cage projects typically include thicker aluminum framing, engineered plans, permits, and coordination with a general contractor. See the complete Screen Enclosures page.
Can occupants exit through Fortress Screens in an emergency?
Yes, when the required emergency-egress screens are included. Egress screens are required in every bedroom. Additional egress screens may be added when the property or project calls for them.
Can unusual shapes and oversized openings be protected?
Yes. Every Fortress Screen is made to order for the exact opening. Arched windows, bay windows, wide sliding doors, skylights, and other nonstandard openings can be evaluated during the onsite measurement visit.
Comparison, Cost & Financing
Compare permanent protection with common alternatives and understand how project pricing is determined.
How do Fortress Screens compare with impact glass, shutters, roll-downs, and storm fabric?
Fortress Screens provide a permanent metal barrier with no seasonal deployment and no moving parts. Shutters, removable panels, and storm fabric must be deployed before a storm. Roll-down systems require operation and include mechanical components. Impact glass can still be damaged and may require replacement. Fortress stays installed while preserving everyday visibility and airflow. Review the detailed hurricane screens versus impact windows comparison.
Are Fortress Screens permanently installed?
Yes. The system is custom fit and permanently mounted around each protected opening. There is no seasonal storage, setup, motor, or arming step required for the screen to remain in place.
Do I still need to protect or upgrade my roof?
Yes. Roof protection and opening protection address different parts of building resilience. Fortress Screens protect vulnerable windows and doors. Roof condition, connections, and code compliance should be evaluated separately by a qualified roofing contractor, engineer, or building professional. No single product can guarantee that a building will avoid storm damage.
How much do Fortress Screens cost?
Every project is custom quoted after the openings and installation conditions are reviewed. Price depends on opening dimensions, quantity, project type, frame color, installation complexity, permits, engineering, and location. Fortress provides free onsite estimates and does not publish per-opening pricing on the website.
Does Fortress Screens offer financing?
Yes. Financing is available through Hearth. Homeowners can review potential monthly-payment options without loan origination fees. Actual offers and payments depend on the borrower, lender, amount, term, and final approval.
Estimate, Installation & Service
Know what happens after you request an estimate and which project details Fortress coordinates.
How do I get a free estimate?
Start with the Get a Quote form or call (813) 515-7349. Share the property type, installation address, openings in scope, and your main priorities. The team will contact you to schedule the onsite visit.
What happens from estimate to installation?
The process has six steps: submit your details, speak with the sales team, complete the onsite visit and sample review, measure every opening, receive the custom quote, and schedule manufacturing and installation after approval and deposit. Most residential projects receive a same-day quote after measurement.
What happens during the onsite visit?
The Fortress team reviews the property, answers questions, brings samples, and measures every opening in scope. The visit is also when you can compare frame colors, examine visibility, discuss egress requirements, and identify any permitting or engineering needs.
Are permits or engineered plans required?
They may be, depending on the project. Commercial projects and pool cages commonly require permits and engineered drawings. Fortress and its installer or general-contractor network coordinate the required project documentation when it applies.
Is installation available outside Florida?
Fortress provides direct service in Florida and is expanding nationally through distribution and dealer partners. Screens may also be shipped for installation by qualified third parties outside the direct-service area. Contact the team with the project location to confirm coverage.
HOA, Housing Authority, Insurance & Care
Find the approval, ownership, warranty, and maintenance answers that affect the final decision.
Do I need HOA or Architectural Review Committee approval?
Many associations require an Architectural Review Committee request before exterior modifications. Fortress can provide product specifications, certifications, frame-color information, and installation photography to support a homeowner submission, but approval requirements and decisions remain with the association. Review the complete HOA and ARC approval guidance.
Does Fortress Screens work with housing authorities and government properties?
Yes. Housing authorities are a separate customer group from homeowners and HOAs. Fortress can address multi-unit public housing, municipal buildings, and other government facilities with permanent storm and security protection. Procurement, budgeting, installation planning, and resident-safety requirements are handled as a commercial or government project. Visit Housing Authority solutions.
Do Fortress Screens qualify for insurance discounts?
They may qualify as impact-rated protection, but the actual result depends on the insurance carrier and property. After installation, ask your insurer whether a wind-mitigation inspection or other documentation is required. Savings vary by insurer, policy, property, and location.
What warranty comes with Fortress Screens?
Fortress uses a tiered warranty rather than a lifetime-warranty claim. Coverage includes 10 years for structural frame integrity, 5 years for the screen and frame attachment system, 2 years for stainless steel mesh corrosion with stated exceptions, 5 years for paint chipping, cracking, or delaminating, and 5 years for visible frame corrosion.
How do I clean and maintain Fortress Screens?
Routine cleaning only requires a hose-compatible glass cleaner or similar mild cleaner. Spray the screen, allow the cleaner to soak, and rinse with the nozzle held about 6 inches from the mesh. No specialized maintenance product is required.
Can contractors sell and install Fortress Screens?
Yes. Fortress is growing an authorized dealer network. Contractors with the appropriate license, installation capability, experience, and defined service area can apply through the Become a Dealer page.
