How do Fortress Screens compare to impact glass, shutters, and roll-downs?
Fortress Screens are permanently installed stainless steel mesh that is impact-proof and cut-proof with no moving parts. Impact glass can crack or shatter on impact and requires full replacement. Shutters must be deployed before every storm and stored when not in use. Roll-down systems are mechanical and can fail when you need them most. Polypropylene fabric screens degrade in Florida sun and heat. Fortress Screens are always in place, always protecting, and built from metal that lasts.
Do Fortress Screens block your view?
No. Fortress Screens provide full visibility from inside. The stainless steel mesh is designed so you can see clearly through it from the interior, similar to looking through a standard window screen. From outside, the mesh provides privacy by reducing visibility into your home.
Can Fortress Screens protect windows from golf balls?
Yes. Fortress Screens are impact-proof and absorb golf ball strikes without damage to the screen or the glass behind it. Homes, clubhouses, and commercial buildings adjacent to golf courses, driving ranges, and baseball fields use Fortress Screens to stop repeated glass damage from stray balls. The 12x12 stainless steel mesh with 120,000 lbs of tensile strength handles projectile impacts while maintaining a clear view of the course or field. Hurricane protection and security come standard with every installation.

Do hurricane screens really work?
Yes. Fortress Screens are a patented Category 5 design, approved by the Florida Building Code. The stainless steel mesh is impact proof and blocks up to 90% of hurricane wind speeds, reducing the pressure on your windows during a storm. Unlike shutters, Fortress Screens are permanently installed and always protecting — no deployment or storage needed. The same screen also provides security against break-ins and reduces energy costs by blocking solar radiation.
How much do Fortress Screens cost?
Without taking measurements of your building’s windows, openings, etc and going over your unique needs, we have no way of providing an accurate price. With that said, you should budget roughly $1,000 per opening to get a rough budget estimate and we do provide free estimates to everyone. We also have installers and general contractors who will pull any necessary permits for you. Our screens are made in Florida and carry a warranty. They are a permanent addition to any property and are well worth the investment.
Does Fortress Screens offer financing?
We have a few companies that we recommend that have no loan origination fees and reasonable rates. When Fortress Screens are installed for energy savings, there is no sales tax. Fortress Screens does not charge credit card fees.
How do Fortress Screens lower your energy bills?
Fortress Screens block up to 90% of solar radiation before it reaches your windows, significantly reducing cooling costs. Windows are the biggest source of solar heat gain in any building. By stopping that heat before it gets inside, your AC runs less, your energy bills drop, and your interiors are protected from UV damage. When installed for energy savings, Fortress Screens may also qualify for a sales tax exemption. The same screen also provides hurricane protection and security.
Can Fortress Screens be installed on pool cages?
We partner with contractors to build custom lanai and pool cages to meet the high-strentgh structural demands of having screens that do not fold up, tear or bend. An enclosed pool made with thicker aluminum framing designed to handle our screens in a hurricane and not fold up or bend would cost more than a standard/typical one that is designed to have the screens tare off in a storm. Ours are made of stainless steel in a patented structural aluminum frame with 120,000 pounds of tensile strength. You would be buying the cage, our screen panels, the engineering plans, permit and installation.

Do I need HOA approval for Fortress Screens?
Most HOAs require an Architectural Review Committee (ARC) request before exterior modifications. Fortress Screens are designed to complement your home's appearance and are available in multiple frame colors to match your building. Many homeowners have successfully received HOA approval. Fortress Screens can provide documentation, product specs, and photos of completed installations to support your ARC submission.
Do Fortress Screens qualify for insurance discounts?
Many customers receive insurance premium discounts after installing Fortress Screens. Florida Statute 627.0629 requires insurers to offer premium discounts for impact-rated products. Fortress Screens are approved under Florida Building Code (FL32125.1-R2 / FL32125.2-R2) as impact-rated protection. Actual savings vary by insurer, policy, and location. Ask your insurance provider about wind mitigation credits for impact-rated screen systems.
Do Fortress Screens block air flow?
Air flow is breezy at low speeds. High speed wind slows like it hit a wall. We have done tests. It blocks up to 90% of hurricane wind speeds so your windows don’t get the high wind pressure.
Do I still need to protect my roof if I have Fortress Screens?
If a building has an updated roof to meet roofing codes created in the 1990’s, the roof will stay in place. Metal straps/brackets hold the roof down and anchor it to the tops of the walls because of the suction created by high winds. Having all windows and doors protected keeps wind from coming inside and creating positive pressure from underneath. If you don’t have either updated roofs or protected windows, your building is at risk. 2 methods of protection need to be in place to ensure your building won’t be destroyed. Update the roof to meet code and get our screens or even shutters if you prefer that. Don’t get impact glass because it breaks and needs to be replaced. Don’t get roll down “anything” because it is “pretty looking garbage”. Don’t get polypropylene fabric because it fails and degrades in the Florida Sun and Heat. Make sure your protection is always METAL.

Egress screen are required in every bedroom. Optional to do more than one egress screen per room.
How do you clean and maintain Fortress Screens?
To clean your Fortress Screens, use windex, or similar, that connects to the garden hose and spray directly on the screen. Allow to soak, then rinse (put nozzle about 6” from the screen).
What size mesh do Fortress Screens use?
12x12 per sq inch
